Botulinum toxin, Clostridium botulinum obtained from a bacterium, is a drug used for the relaxation of muscles. Almost all antibiotics are obtained using the same technique. It is basically the substance that bacteria secrete to protect themselves. This medication has been used for more than 20 years to relieve muscle contraction in different parts of medicine.
How does Botulinum Toxin work?
The muscles that provide our facial movements are attached to the skin on them. As a result of the facial expressions, muscles form visible lines and wrinkles in our skin.
It is a chemical called acetyl choline which passes from nerve endings to muscle to muscle. Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle group area where the motions are restricted. The substance placed at the nerve endings prevents acetylcholine from being caught by the muscles and limits muscle movement for a certain period of time. The muscles are limited in movement and the wrinkles in this region disappear in a short time, appearing more comfortable and younger appearance. A forehead with botulinum toxin appears smoother, wrinkle-free. Eyebrows move less and make it harder to frown. After the third month, this effect diminishes and the muscles gradually return to their old movements towards the sixth month. Botulinum toxin has a long-lasting effect over time as a result of repetitive procedures, which significantly slow down aging, especially the upper part of the face.
