What is a hernia?
It is known as a hernia when a weak area in the anterior abdominal wall protrudes from the abdominal organs with a sac.
Why do we get a hernia?
- Genetic reasons
- Heavy lift
- Previous operations (incision hernia, Port hernias)
- Obesity
- Smoking
- Factors that increase intra-abdominal pressure (Prostate enlargements, constipation, cough, masses…)
- Weakening of tissue with increasing age
How do we know we’re hernia?
Swelling and pain are the most common symptoms. Swelling is a swelling that usually appears with exertion and disappears at rest. It appears when you are pushing during a toilet, when you have coughing spikes, when you are standing and swelling disappears when this effort disappears. In other words, it is a swelling that has the ability to grow and shrink. Pain is caused by the tension of the hernia sac or the membrane of the organ entering it. It is an uncomfortable pain. If the hernia sac becomes smaller, the pain disappears.
