It is caused by strokes or degenerative to the extremity joint of the finger. The extensor tendon, which straightens the finger, is injured in the area where it attaches to the bone (distal phalanx) in the most extreme node of the finger. It is usually seen after closed injuries with no lesions on the finger.
The patient cannot flatten his finger. Passive but flattenable. Direct radiography (full lateral and a.p.) is required. Sometimes a small bone fracture with tendon can be seen on the finger.
In cases where no bone fracture is seen, conservative treatment is applied with a hammer finger splint which is not removed at all for 2.5-3 months. An open injury, bone fracture, etc. cases need surgical intervention. Surgery can be performed easily under local anesthesia.
