There are ligaments providing stabilization on both sides of the finger joints. Collateral ligaments. An injury called skier’s thumb (Skier Başs thumb or Gamekeeper’s thumb) is caused by damage to the collateral ligaments located on the base of the thumb (2nd joint from the fingertip) to the side near the index finger (ulnar collateral ligament).
As we know, ligaments or ligaments connect adjacent bones in joint regions. In this joint, a strain that distances the thumb from the other fingers can lead to a rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament. Pain, swelling, redness, weakness in grip movements are among the symptoms of this injury. Early application of ice and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs will be beneficial. Surgical repair is recommended for completely broken ligaments.
